What are your sales goals in the freight industry?
Is your goal to make just enough money to pay your bills?
Is your goal to be excellent and go way beyond your financial requirements?
If your desire is the latter, then I have the strategy for you to get there! The strategy consists of two words that can change your life: Goal Setting. You already understand its’ importance. I talk about it often. Now, I’m going to give you the
How to of goal setting and creating plans for their accomplishment.
How to Set Amazing Goals
Human beings are autotelic which means we’re purpose driven. We get our purpose from our goals. This purpose gives us motivation, enthusiasm and excitement. Creating goals doesn’t have to be a laborious affair. You can do it in 5 minutes or less. Here’s an exercise for you to complete right now. Set a timer for 5 minutes. Move somewhere or close your door so you won’t be disturbed.
On a piece of paper, write down 10 things that you desire to accomplish, have or be in the next 12 months. Write them down as fast as you can and don’t censor yourself. Don’t worry about your goals being too big. We’ll tone them down in just a second. Do it now…
Your Most Important Goal
Do you have your list of 10 goals? You’re now taking an extremely important step. Look down your list and ask this question:
If I can achieve one of these goals within 24 hours, which goal would it be? This goal is now your most important goal. Whether it’s a new house, a new income goal, or a vacation to go on with your family, you’re going to focus on this all day long.
Successful freight sales agents are focused. Instead of spreading all of their focus across 50 different goals, they put 100% of their focus into their most important goal. That’s why you decided upon your most important goal.
Now that you have your main goal, you’re just beginning. Having written goals is necessary, but far from sufficient. You have much more work to do. That work is planning. For every minute spent in planning, you have 10 minutes in execution. That’s a 1,000% return on investment.
The first set of required plans is for your actions. Write down a list of 20 actions of everything you can think of to achieve your most important goal. Some of these actions, you’ll have to do every day such as collecting three new contacts. Others you may have to do once per quarter such as going to a seminar on professional selling. Again, write down everything you can think of.
Now that you have your list of action steps, then organize them. Organize your list by sequence breaking each action down into as many shorter actions as necessary. This forces you to set priorities, which are invaluable.
Now that you know your most important goal along with an organized plan to execute it, your work is simple. Each day, work through your action plan until you’ve achieved your most important goal.
Rinse and repeat until successful!
